Town-Gown Relations

“The relationship is a key component to our community, and I’m very pleased as the mayor of Ripon to be on board with President Zach Messitte. We have a wonderful relationship and open line of communication that works well in a small community where everybody knows each other.” — Gary Will, mayor of Ripon.

A mutually nurturing relationship has existed between Ripon College and the City of Ripon since the early days. Today, Ripon College students, faculty and staff are actively involved in work, internship, community-building and volunteer opportunities throughout the city of 7,733 residents.

Each year, numerous students volunteer their time at local non-profits and lend their business expertise as businesses consultants — allowing them to gain valuable work experience while providing critical services to established organizations and start-ups in the surrounding area.

Because of their close involvement in the City of Ripon, College students gain a good sense of the community in which they live. In The Princeton Review’s ranking of colleges’ “Town-Gown Relations,” which asks how well students get along with members of the local community, Ripon gets high marks at number 12 of 379 American colleges and universities.
