Catalyst 300 – Land use changes

Humans have been altering their landscapes for thousands of years. The Great Acceleration brought exponential population increase and the need for material goods and space. Some estimates claim that over ¾ of land and ⅔ of the ocean are altered by human activity including deforestation, mining, alteration of river flow, agriculture, and urbanization. Unsustainable landscape management will likely continue with increasing population pressure. This challenge
addresses global and local land-use change to promote ecological and human health.
