Visiting Instructor/Professor of Theatre
Through its Faculty Fellows Program, Ripon College seeks to recruit and support a cohort of ABD / ABT / post-MFA / postdoctoral researchers, educators and creators. Fellows will be outstanding teacher-scholars who will contribute to the college’s academic excellence, diversity of viewpoints and experiences, and relevance in a global society. The program is open to all qualified applicants and is interested in scholars with the potential to bring to their teaching and research the critical perspective that comes from non-traditional educational background or understanding of the experiences of groups historically underrepresented in higher education. The Faculty Fellows Program encourages applications from individuals from underrepresented groups in the professoriate, including, for example, African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, other Pacific Islanders, first generation college students, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, individuals who have followed non-traditional pathways to college due to exceptional talent and motivation in the face of adversity, such as societal, economic or academic disadvantages, and individuals with a demonstrated commitment to applying and including diverse backgrounds and perspectives to learning, scholarship, and leadership in the academy.
Faculty Fellows receive an initial 2-year visiting appointment, with a reduced teaching load (2 courses each semester, rather than 3). Fellows receive an annual salary of $45,000, health benefits, and a research fund of $1,500 /year. Additional opportunities for support are available: these include curriculum development grants, travel grants, scholarly/artistic grants, and colleague teaching grants. In the first year, each fellow will offer a campus presentation on their research. In the second year, fellows will jointly lead a faculty reading group on a topic of the fellows’ choosing.
To be eligible, a candidate must have completed all requirements for the terminal degree (PhD or MFA), except the dissertation or thesis, or must be no more than two years beyond receiving the terminal degree at time of application.
The Department of Theatre invites applications for a faculty fellow position (to begin August 2021). The successful candidate will serve as the primary director for theatre department productions, and teach courses in the areas of beginning and advanced levels of acting, directing, and other areas of expertise. Departmental productions are staged in Benstead Theatre, a newly renovated black-box theatre, which is a flexible, experimental space. This position will be vital for recruiting students and building the performance side of the department.
- MFA, or all but thesis, in Acting or Directing
- Ability to direct in a variety of genres
- Energy and enthusiasm for service within the Theatre Department and as an active recruiter of prospective students
- Strong commitment to student-centered active learning and student engagement
- Ability to work with state and regional theatre organizations such as the American College Theatre Festival
- Willingness to develop courses building on the established curricula
