Julie Johnson Varsity Women’s Lounge

Julie Johnson, Ripon College’s first female Athletic Director and Hall of Fame Coach, has and continues to leave an indelible mark on Ripon Athletics

Julie Johnson was named Athletic Director at Ripon College in May of 2010, making her the first female Athletic Director in school history. Johnson, who is in her 26th year at Ripon College, has served in many different roles during her career, including professor, head of the exercise science department and head coach of golf, softball and most notably, women’s basketball. As head coach of Ripon’s Women’s Basketball team from 1990-2013, Johnson became the program’s winningest coach with a career record of 303-237 (.561). She is one of just four coaches in Midwest Conference history to tally more than 300 career victories and one of four to win at least 200 conference games. Under Johnson’s leadership, Ripon won four MWC Championships and automatically qualified for the NCAA Tournament in all four of those years. During her tenure, Johnson coached four All-Americans, five All-Region performers, three MWC Players of the Year and 41 all-conference selections. Johnson was named MWC Coach of the Year four times in her career, while earning NCAA women’s basketball Central Region Coach of the Year once. Johnson currently serves on the NCAA Division-III Championship Committee. She was named to the Ripon College Hall of Fame in 2005 for her commitment to the education of students through the classroom and athletics competition.
