On Nov. 14, 2015, Ron Ernst became the all-time winningest football coach in Midwest Conference history with the 160th victory of his 25-year career.

He is also the winningest coach in the history of Ripon College football, winning 66 more games than the next highest total. Ernst holds a career record of 160-85 and has led Ripon to 23 winning seasons. Ernst has led the Red Hawks to three MWC North Division titles (1995, 1996, 1997) and two MWC Championships (1996, 2001). Ernst was named MWC Coach of the Year in 1996 when he led the team to a record nine-win season. He also has been named NCAA Division III Region 5 Coach of the Year (1995) and Wisconsin Football Private College Coach of the Year on three occasions (2001, 2008, 2010). Ernst is a member of the Ripon College Athletics Hall of Fame and the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
