Item: Guttus (oil container used for filling lamps)

Date: 4th century BCE

Description: Black-glazed "Calenian" style guttus with long neck spout. Ring handle. Raised, ribbed design. Decorated on top with a shell. For examples of very similar shape and fabric see J. W. Hayes, Greek and Italian Black-Gloss Wares and Related Wares in the Royal Ontario Museum (Toronto 1984) 53-56 ns. 86-89.

Description: Black-glazed guttus with raised ribs on body, ring handle, and a lion spout. Six filling holes perforate the top. For a guttus of very similar shape and design see J. W. Hayes, Greek and Italian Black-Gloss Wares and Related Wares in the Royal Ontario Museum (Toronto 1984) 96 n. 130.
