Notes: "Maximin was the first of the 'soldier emperors,' and he was ruler for three years from 235-238 CE. He was born around the year 173 in a village in Thrace. He was physically imposing as a young man and as he grew older he embarked on a career in the Roman Army. Maximin did not have any major military positions until the war was beginning to flare up with the Germans. He was then appointed head of training the recruits. During the mutiny of March 235 CE, Alexander Severus was killed and Maximin was proclaimed emperor." -Miguel Anderson, Class of 2002
