Sexual Assault Bystander Intervention Workshop Presented by the Ripon College Feminists, Theta Chi, and Abby Honold
November 2 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Abby fell victim to sexual assault in 2014 as a college student. After the authorities did not initially press charges, she sought legal help and came forward to fight for justice. As an advocate, Abby spends her time speaking to various groups about the impact of sexual assault and founded a support network, Survivors Speak, for victims of sexual violence and abuse. She has introduced federal legislation titled The Abby Honold Act, which will start a nationwide pilot program to train law enforcement in better questioning techniques in sexual assault cases. She also is working with an initiative called ConsentEd MN to bring consent education to K-12 schools in Minnesota. Abby initially planned to pursue a career as a teacher. She now aspires to use her teaching skills in combination with her personal experience with sexual assault in a different light, by helping to heal other survivors and educate the community on sexual assault prevention and care.
In this event, Abby will tell her personal story and teach the audience how to respond to situations of potential sexual assault.
The event is sponsored by Ripon College Feminists and Theta Chi Fraternity.
