Privilege Walk

September 11 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Participants will stand in the middle in the beginning to symbolize equality. Moderators will ask participants questions on the participants’ personal experiences. The participants will either move forward or backward depending on how they respond to the question. For example, Move backward if you have student loans or move forwards if you are able-bodied. There will be a debrief at the end. The walk will last about 15 minutes with the debrief lasting about 45 minutes. Students, staff, and faculty are all welcome to participate. The purpose of this activity is to have you think about your personal privileges and to break the assumptions we all have of the people around us. We chose 09/11 because Ripon has a controversial history of how we commemorate this date. This event is trying to reclaim how we commemorate this date by promoting diversity, inclusion, and conversation. There will be some questions related to 09/11 posed.
