{ Preventing Assault }
The same good sense that can help keep your property secure also can help keep you safe. Remember that just being on campus is not sufficient protection. Don't put yourself into a victim's position.

Lock up!

  • Keep your residence hall room door locked regularly, even when you're home, and especially when you are sleeping or showering.
  • Don't prop open the door to a locked campus building or residence hall.
  • Close your curtains or blinds after dark.
  • Keep your car doors locked and the windows up -- when the car is parked and when you are driving.

Don't Walk Alone After Dark

Students, faculty and staff can call for a security escort by calling 748-8703. This service is provided primarily for students who park their vehicles in the parking lots on the west section of campus. However, other individuals who feel insecure or threatened by walking alone on cmapus after dark may use this service. A member of the Plant Department staff or our contract security provider will respond to your request. This service and number is available for use 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Whenever possible, you should try to always have an acquaintance with you when traveling on campus after dark.

Be Cautious and Prepared

Be aware of your surroundings. Know what your resources are, and make yourself familiar with them.
