{ Planned Gifts - Making a Bequest }

As an expression of confidence in Ripon College's mission, many alumni

and friends of the College have pledged all or part of their personal estate

to the College.  Because of their strong belief in Ripon's continued

educational excellence, these dedicated individuals are helping to provide

for future generations of Ripon students.  Bequests and other estate gifts to

increase the College's endowment or otherwise enhance the academic

environment.  Since most estate gifts are meant to be perpetual, designations

for endowment or capital expnditures for buildings are the most common.

Endowment gifts above th minimum amount established by the Trustees, and

adjusted from time to time, bear the name(s) of the donor(s) or someone

the donor chooses to honor.  This amount is currently $25,000.  Gifts for

capital improvements or maintenance endowments may include appropriate

naming opportunities of physical spaces throughout the College.  Totally

unrestricted gifts are designated by Trustees for College prioroties, which may

include the annual operating budget.

In an effort to provide assistance on how you can include Ripon in a bequest,

examples of language to place in your will, codicil, or trust are suggested

below.   Your attorney can tailor these statements to fit your specific

circumstances.

Restricted Bequest

"I bequeath _______% (or a specific dollar amount, or describe the

specific property being given, residue remainder and/or percentage of the

residue) to Ripon College, Ripon, Wisconsin, for the purpose of establishing

or adding to an endowment for (state the restricted purpose of how the bequest

should be used -- i.e. student scholarships, library acquisitions, athletics, student

life, etc.)."  Designating a bequest for a named endowment with no restrictions

is also possible.

Residuary Estate

"I devise and bequeath the entire residue of the property owned by me and my

death, real and personal; whatever situate, to Ripon College, Ripon, Wisconsin, to

be added to the college's unrestricted endowment (or and other specific endowment

or capital purpose)."

Totally Unrestricted Bequest

"I give and bequeath ____% (or a specific dollar amount, or describe specific

property being given) to Ripon College, Ripon, Wisconsin.  I request that the total

bequest be used in such a manner as the College Board of Trustees shall, in its sole

discretion, determine. "

We hope these samples are helpful to you and your advisors.  On behalf of Ripon

College, we strongly encourage you, if you are considering a restricted bequest, to

discuss the details of your intentions with one of us or another senior staff member

of the College Advancement Staff to assure the maximum effectiveness of your plans.

Ripon's continued prosperity is due, in large part, to the willingness of past generations

of alumni and friends to share in Ripon's plans for its future.  Please contact the Office

of Advancement if you have any questions about the provisions you have already made

for Ripon or whenever we may be of assistance to you.
