What compelled you to join the Board?
Ripon changed my life. In four years here, I found the interests that have consumed me for a lifetime, and the friends that feel like family. I want to help Ripon give that experience to the generation considering college today.
What are your Trustee super powers?
No super powers - just a desire to pitch in where I can.
What do you see as the most significant challenges for higher education in general, and Ripon in particular?
Higher education has the easy job. Everyone knows that education is valuable. The challenge for Ripon College is to show young folks how a higher education here is more valuable and more enjoyable than the experience they will get elsewhere.
What excites you most about Ripon College's future?
You can't help but see the energy, enthusiasm and growth in the Ripon community and on the College campus. A Ripon College education will remain a credential that graduates will be proud to present, and the Ripon College experience will remain a favorite memory long after they leave.
What are some of your pursuits/hobbies/interests?
I studied economics at Ripon and became fascinated with government regulation of business. I went on to graduate school in economics, then law school, and then a career as a lawyer working both inside and outside the government. I used to work for the Federal Trade Commission, and now I help companies comply with FTC laws. I still love to play tennis (although I wasn't good enough to make the team here), and I try to golf now and then. After all these years, I'm still hooked on the intrigue of Washington, the shaping of public policy, and the excitement of battles in courtrooms.
