Bob Kirkland’s desire to serve on the Board of Trustees stems from his deep love for Ripon College. He finds value in a liberal arts education and wants to see the college continue offering this opportunity to students. Bob praises the liberal arts education because he says it will teach students how to overcome obstacles in life after graduation. He also attributes his success in business to the education he received at Ripon College.
“The relevance of the Ripon College experience to the outside world is fantastic,” says Kirkland.
Bob feels one of the upcoming challenges for Ripon College and all higher education institutions is, continuing to provide a quality education in a changing economy. Given the skyrocketing costs of education, Bob says he realizes parents of students are less interested in funding the cost of tuition. He says he believes the College must strive to offer students the best possible education, even when costs continue to rise.
According to Bob, being able to have a hand in Ripon College’s future is one of the biggest rewards of serving on the Board of Trustees. He also enjoys working with all of the other trustees, who he describes as being talented and dedicated.
“These are the people you would want on your side when you go into battle,” says Kirkland.
In his spare time, Bob enjoys engaging in outdoor activities. He stays active skiing and playing golf, and runs in marathons.
