| Harassment is
behavior, speech or writing that demeans or stereotypes individuals
in a harmful way. Harassment creates an intimidating, hostile or
demeaning environment and often has the effect of interfering with
an individual's full and free participation in the life of the college.
Sexual Harassment may be described as "unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors and other physical conduct and expressive behavior of a sexual nature."
Harassment includes:
- Such conduct that has the purpose or effect of interfering with an individual's life by creating an intimidating, hostile or demeaning situation.
- Such conduct can be experienced in education, work and social situations.
- Submission to such conduct is made either explicitly or implicitly a term or condition of an individual's employment or education.
- Ssubmission to or rejection of such conduct by an individual is used as the basis for academic or employment decisions affecting that individual.
Examples of unwelcome behavior include:
Verbal (written or oral):
- Sexual innuendo
- Suggestive comments
- Insults
- Jokes which demean
- Sexual propositions
- Threats
Non-Verbal:
- Suggestive or insulting sounds
- Leering
- Whistling
- Obscene gestures
- Stalking
Physical:
- Touching
- Pinching
- Brushing the body
- Coerced sexual intercourse
- Assault
