{ Academic Community Engagement }

The Office of Community Engagement encourages students to complete their scholarly work in ways that offer a benefit to the community. We support several forms of academic integration that match real-world experiences with a chance to acquire academic expertise:

  • Community-Based Research is a productive partnership between students and community agencies in which a community need for information is met by students, who in turn are learning research-gathering and interpretation methods.
  • Service-Learning is a teaching method which meets the academic goals of a credit-bearing course by engaging students to apply theories and skills to meet actual needs within the community. Students learn a course’s goals through their service.
  • Internships and Practica are pre-professional experiences in a student's field of study which typically culminate with projects or research papers regarding the student’s experiences.

To start your own academic engagement project or participate in an existing program, contact Laura Eppinger.
