Getting Started with Outlook Web Access
Outlook Web Access (OWA) is an easy, convenient way for students,
faculty and staff to access their e-mail accounts here at Ripon. The
biggest advantage to using OWA is that no user setup is required! In
fact, all you need is an open Web browser and you access your e-mail
from any Internet-connected computer in the world.
To start using OWA, open a Web browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape,
Firefox, Mozilla, etc.) and type https://Webmail.Ripon.edu in the address
window and press the Enter key. Type the appropriate username in the
OWA authentication box (as seen in figure 1).

In the User Name box,
type your username. Usernames are generally in the format of
your lastname and firstinitial, so Joe User will have a username
of UserJ. Press TAB to move to the Password box, type your password,
and click OK. Remember, passwords are case sensitive!
After a successful login, you will be taken to your inbox. You
will see a similar window to the one shown in Figure 2. New messages
in your inbox will appear in bold, while messages that have already
been read will appear as normal text. You can customize how messages
are displayed in your inbox by selecting different options in
the Messages pull-down menu. Some other common mail functions
are pointed out in figure 2 and you can get a description of
other OWA functions by placing your cursor over the icon in question. |

Should you need further
help using OWA, try clicking on the question mark to obtain help
with the currently active window.
When you are finished with your e-mail session, simply click
the Log Off button. If you are using OWA on a public workstation,
please remember to close your internet browser to complete the
log off process. Failure to do so can result in other users gaining
access to your e-mail. If you feel that your password has been
compromised or are unable to find answers to your questions using
Outlook Help, please contact the ITS Help Desk at AAAHelpDesk@ripon.edu.
If you are student, you may also try the ITS Student Help Line
at x327.
IMPORTANT: Each time you delete an e-mail from
your inbox it goes into your Deleted Items folder. For each e-mail
you send, a copy is placed in your Sent Items folder. Please
check these folders monthly and delete any old e-mails. Please
keep in mind that when you clean out your Sent Items folder,
the items that you delete will be placed into your Deleted Items
folder. By keeping these two folders clean, you most likely
will stay below your mailbox size limit. |
