Configuring Outlook Express to Check your RipMail Account

Step 1:
Before you go any further, make sure you have a RipNet connection. Once you have, make sure Outlook Express is installed on your computer. It comes with Internet Explorer.

Step 2:

  • Now that you have Outlook Express opened, move the mouse pointer to Tools, located on the menu bar in Figure 1.
  • Click on it to open the dropdown menu, then go down the menu to Accounts and click. This will open another window titled Internet Accounts.

Step 3:

  • In the new Internet Accounts window you will notice a column of buttons to the right (Figure 2).
  • Click on Add, which will bring up a side menu.
  • Click on Mail in this menu. This will let the program know you are adding a mail account and will open the Internet Connection Wizard in another window.

Step 4:
Now, following along with the Wizard's directions:

  • Enter your Display name, then click Next.
  • Enter your return e-mail address (LastNameF@ripon.edu), then click Next.
  • Enter the e-mail server information:
    • Select IMAP as the type of incoming server.
    • Type mail.ripon.edu as the name of the incoming and outgoing mail servers. Click Next.
  • Enter your current login and password and click Next.
  • Enter RipMail as your account name and click Next.
  • Choose Connect using my local network (LAN) and click Next, then Finish.

Step 5:
One last detail. Open the Accounts window again (Figure 2). There you will see the new account that you  just named RipMail. Double-click on RipMail. This will bring up the RipMail properties. Click on the Servers tab located near the top of this window. Then click on the box next to My server requires authentication so that an "x" appears in it.

Step 6:
You will not be asked if you wish to download the IMAP folder list for the account you just created. Click Yes. You're now ready to get and send e-mail with Outlook Express.
