Connecting to Your Mercury Folder

Connecting to your personal folder on Mercury is an easy process for both the Macintosh and the PC user. Unless otherwise noted, these directions will work in all labs on campus, as well as from a personal computer in your room (assuming you have a working network connection).

PC Compatibles

From a Lab:

Step 1: Open up the My Comuter icon on your desktop. The window you see should look something like this. Take note that drive R: is attached to your directory.

My computer

From your Room:

STEP 1: Right click on "My Computer" and select "Map Network Drive."

STEP 2: Select R: as the drive, enter \\mercury\students as the path for your folder. Make sure "Reconnect at logon" is checked and click "Finish."

Map Drive
STEP 3: Enter username and password information when prompted, and click OK. Locate your personal folder in the listing, and create a shortcut to it on your desktop if you wish. Logon

Macintosh

The instructions for connecting to Mercury from a Mac, are exactly the same whether you are using a lab Macintosh or your own.

STEP 1: Click on the “Apple” menu icon in the upper left corner of the desktop, and select Chooser from the menu.

STEP 2: From the window that appears (see below), select Appleshare from the first window. Next, click on Server IP Address and type in "Mercury.Ripon.Edu." Finally, click on "Connect."

STEP 3: You are now prompted for your username and password. Please enter the correct information and click "Connect."

STEP 4: In the next window, scroll through the list and select the Students folder. If you would like this connection to be made every time the computer starts, you must click the checkbox next to the Students item. Select O.K. A network drive called students will now appear on your desktop. Navigate through that folder to find your personal folder.
