Configuring a Macintosh for RipNet: OS X

These instructions will guide you through configuring your Macintosh for a connection to RipNet. Please make sure that your Ethernet network cable is securely connected to your computer and to the wall jack you specified on your RipNet application.

Note: There are various setup assistants your mac may run at first start-up. These instructions walk you through setting up your Mac manually, without using the setup assistants. So when you get to any setup assistant, just close it. If you've already configured your machine using a setup assistant, these instructions will verify and/or modify the settings made.

Network Preferences: DHCP
  • From the Apple menu select System Preferences and click on the Network icon.
  • For the item named Show, select Built-in Ethernet.
  • Then make sure the TCP/IP tab is selected. For the item named Configure, select Using DHCP.
  • Click the Apply Now button located at the bottom right corner of the window. Then from the System Prefs menu (located next to the Apple Menu) select Quit System Prefs.

You can now verify you are connected by using your favorite Web browser or e-mail client. If you have any further questions or comments about this document, call the ITS Student Help Desk at x327 or send a message to AAAHelpDesk@ripon.edu.
