From the comfort of our homes, a war overseas can easily become a series of faceless battles. Those battles, however, involve scores of young soldiers wo risk and often lose their lives. During World War II, Clemens Lueck '23, the College's publicity director and alumni secretary, made it a point to treat each of more than 1,000 Ripon alumni and students in the war as people. He established a one-man letter-writing campaign that gave those overseas a solid connection to home and provided a boost in morale during bleak days. Lisa Verwys '07 and Jessica Fuoco '07 have studied dozens of Lueck's letters and thse he recieved from soldiers and family members. They share his story here, and today's soldiers remind us that such personal contact still is valued highly today.
NCAA President Myles Brand and Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig headlined the Ripon Ethical Leadership Program's second annual ethics conference. The College's commitment to first-generaton, lower-income and disabled students has lived and breathed in the form of its Student Support Services program for more than 30 years. Today, approximately half of Ripon's students qualify for the program which plays out its integral role on the campus. "Many students take advantage of the services and opportunities provided by the program," says Dan Krhin, program director. By Jaye Alderson.
