Economics department to sponsor speaker on the financial crisis

RIPON, Wis. –As part of the William B. Murphy endowed lecture series, the economics department at Ripon College will sponsor its second speaker this school year. Dr. Michael Salemi will speak at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2 in the Great Hall of Harwood Memorial Union. His presentation, “Sub-prime Lending, the Financial Crisis, Recession, and Remedies” is free and open to the public.


Throughout his career, Dr. Salemi has studied financial, monetary and macroeconomic analysis and policy, and has also studied effective economic education. He will use these studies during his presentation to present a clear overview of what has happened to the U.S. economy over the past 2-3 years, and will also provide some ideas illustrating how we can prevent similar problems from happening again in the future. Dr. Salemi is a professor of economics at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill.
