RIPON, Wis. –
Educational Studies Professor Andrew Kirchmeier suffered a fatal heart attack Saturday, Oct. 11, while on a Boy Scout camping trip with his son, Kamal.
The life of Professor Kirchmeier will be celebrated and honored during a memorial service for the Ripon College community at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15 in Great Hall.
A visitation and service will be held this Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Wyocena Community Center, 165 E. Dodge St., Wyocena, WI 53969. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. The service will begin at 11 a.m. There will be a luncheon following the service in the same facility.
A caravan to the funeral will leave the parking lot of Ripon’s First Congregational Church at 9 a.m. College vans will be available for students needing rides.
Kirchmeier, 54, had taught at Ripon since joining the faculty in 1992. He prepared more than 300 teachers who now work in classrooms across the United States and in several foreign countries. Prior to coming to Ripon, Kirchmeier taught middle/secondary history and social studies for seven years internationally. He served as a teacher in Chile, El Salvador and Ethiopia, as well as in Wisconsin and Iowa.
Kirchmeier is survived by his wife, Hikmet Mohammed, son Kamal Kirchmeier (13), and daughter Nadiya Kirchmeier (9).
An educational trust fund has been established for Kirchmeier's
