Chuck Hedges Septet kicks off annual chamber and jazz music series
Sept. 5, 2008

RIPON, Wis. – Jazz clarinetist Chuck Hedges will perform with his band at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19 in the Demmer Recital Hall of Ripon College’s Rodman Center for the Arts.

Hedges built his reputation in his native Chicago in the early 1950s along with George Brun, Danny Alvin and Muggsy Spanier. During the 60s Chuck was part of the great Dick Ruedebusch Band that recorded many records and performed on the Ed Sullivan Show. He now makes his home in the Milwaukee area and has been playing Thursday nights at The Grove Restaurant. He also travels worldwide for jazz festivals and played with the late Wild Bill Davison all over Europe.

“Chuck Hedges, who has lived in Wisconsin for many years, is one of the most respected trad-jazz clarinetists in the country,” said Hedges’ agent. “It makes a lot of sense to have him make the short drive from Milwaukee up to Ripon to share his music.”

Tickets are $15 for adults; $12 for seniors, and Ripon faculty and staff; and $8 for youths age 18 and under. The Chamber Music and Jazz series is in its 36th year. For more information contact Professor Kurt Dietrich at 920-748-8791.
