RIPON, Wis. –The art exhibit “Profits and Castaways” will open Friday, Nov. 14 with commentary from the works’ creator Lydia Diemer at 7 p.m. in the Caestecker Art Gallery of Ripon College’s C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts.
Diemer experiments with color and texture as she combines the art of printmaking with found objects to create collages and installations. Manipulation and transformation come into play as she turns scraps of paper and garbage that have been cast away into pieces of abstract art with concrete inspiration. She also creates pieces that are solely drawings or prints.
Having spent time in Europe, Mexico, Berlin, Hong Kong and Macau, Diemer has learned to view, with a keen eye, what is around her finding inspiration for her next pieces and also the materials with which she works. A number of exhibits have had nautical or oceanic themes.
Diemer, who currently resides in Iowa, received her MFA in printmaking from the University of Iowa and her BFA from the University of Wisconsin with a double major in mathematics and studio art.
“Profits and Castaways” will run Nov. 14 to Dec. 12. The gallery is open 1-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, and 2-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free.
