RIPON, Wis. – Artist Amy Mietzel '91 will be featured in the Mixed Media Paintings art exhibit in the lobby gallery of the C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts. The exhibit will open with an artist reception on Friday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. and will close on Friday, Oct. 5.
Mietzel, of Madison, Wis., will mark her twelfth exhibition with pieces celebrating the layers of nature. “In my attempt to capture and cultivate an admiration for the natural world, I have been creating mixed media paintings that show the relationship between humans and the environment,” said Mietzel. “Most of my art is an insightful process in which I use multiple layers of color, media and writing to depict events or people that can be a bit serious, but there may be a zany or capricious twist to them.”
After graduating from Ripon College with a bachelor’s degree in art, Mietzel received her K-12 art education certification from Edgewood College in 1994 and completed a master’s program in curriculum and instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2001. She is currently the cultural arts educator for the Madison Metro School District of Wisconsin. Since 2004, she has been responsible for the development and teaching of the district’s cultural-arts curriculum.
Mietzel has participated in 11 art exhibitions and three public collections. She received grants as a visiting artist around the state, and she was distinguished as a Tommy Thompson International Scholar in 2000.
