Choral Union spring concert a mix of familiar and original compositions

April 15, 2008

RIPON, Wis. –The Ripon College Choral Union will perform songs composed by Ripon College students and faculty, as well as songs from popular movies and musicals at 3:15 p.m. April 27 in the Demmer Recital Hall, Rodman Center for the Arts.

To open their concert, the group will perform a piece composed by Professor Sarah Hughes entitled “The Bitter Winter.” This composition is based on a poem by Ralph Freeman about the Holocaust.

Within the first half of the concert, many selections are performed a cappella and offer intonation and dissonance challenges for the performers. There is also a composition by Kelsey Green ‘08, “Allelujah Meditation,” performed in this portion of the concert.

In the second half of the program, the group will perform familiar pieces from West Side Story, Star Wars Episode 1 and Schindler’s List.

The performance offers solos and trios for many of the performers and an opportunity for audience members to hear both familiar songs and the debut of other vocal compositions.

The concert is free and open to the public. For more information contact director Seong Graham at GrahamS@Ripon.edu or call (920) 748-8791.
