RIPON, Wis. – The Ripon Summer Players will start their second decade of live theatre with Charles Morey’s frantic comedy “Laughing Stock.” Open auditions and crew call for this delightfully zany play will be held 7-9:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24 and Wednesday, April 25 in the Benstead Theatre of Ripon College’s Rodman Center for the Arts. Performances will run May 31 – June 2.
In this hilarious backstage farce, we follow an overmatched summer stock theatre company through wild auditions, chaotic rehearsals, disastrous opening nights, and eventual dramatic success. The Salt Lake City Weekly said, “Laughing Stock soars as farce. The delightful thing is that Morey strikes a balance between a depiction of everything that can and usually does go wrong and a genuinely affectionate look at the magic that holds theatre companies together.”
“As we begin our 11th season, the Ripon Summer Players keep alive the dream of quality live theatre for Ripon and the surrounding area,” said Kenneth Hill, professor of Theatre at Ripon College. “Thanks to our loyal audiences, we have come a long way and hope to provide laughter, mystery, and drama for years to come.”
The play has parts for seven women and seven men and has a number of opportunities for backstage help. Call or e-mail Kenneth Hill at (920) 748-8136 or hillk@ripon.edu with any questions about auditions and crew work. Scripts are on reserve in both Lane Library and the Ripon Public Library.
The Ripon Summer Players is a program of Ripon Noon Kiwanis and the Ripon College Theatre Department.
