Mongolian Ping-Pong, Anyone?
March 28, 2007

RIPON, Wis. – The film "Mongolian Ping Pong" will be shown in Bear Auditorium in Farr Hall, 7 p.m. April 1, as part of Ripon College’s International Film Series.

The Chinese film tells the story of the young boy Bilike who finds a small white ball floating in a creek. He has spent his entire life living in a solitary tent home nestled in Mongolia’s steppe grasslands and is perplexed by the object.

Bilike’s grandmother tells him the sphere is a glowing ball from heaven but when it doesn’t illuminate, he and his friends embark on an adventure to find its true meaning. It is not until one of the boys’ fathers wins a TV that they discover the mysterious ball is used to play ping-pong. They are excited to have found the national ball of China and set out on a journey to return it to the Chinese capital.
The film is acceptable for all ages, including children, but will be shown in Mongolian with English subtitles.

"This film shows how the wonder of youth plays out among children in this remote and undeveloped area as they encounter an object they have never seen before," says Martin Farrell, co-director of the film series.

A brief introduction and previews of future films will precede the viewing.
