Matriculation Convocation will be held Saturday, Aug. 19, at 3 p.m. in Great Hall of Harwood Memorial Union. Each fall, Matriculation Convocation welcomes new students and their families to the Ripon community with this tradition dating back to the Middle Ages. Faculty process in academic regalia.
All new Ripon students will be presented with a coin during the ceremony. Instituted by President Zach P. Messitte, the coin, along with a handshake from the president and senior administrators, welcomes new students into the Ripon College academic community and symbolically initiates their march toward graduation. The coin features the Ripon College clocktower and the date of the convocation on one side and the Ripon College seal on the other.
Students are asked to gather in the Pub in the lower level of the Union.
Refreshments will be available following the ceremony. Students, parents and families are invited to enjoy refreshments and visit with Ripon faculty and staff. Dress is casual, especially considering you are attending the ceremony hours (sometimes minutes) after moving into the residence halls.
