- Authority (Anyone can publish on the web.)
- Who or what organization is responsible for this site?
- What are the qualifications the responsible party has on this subject?
- Are you able to verify that the information is accurate? (Is there contact information or a source where the author got the information listed?)
- What kind of domain is the site on (.edu, .gov, .com, etc.) and does it make sense?
- Purpose
- What is the responsible party using the site for? Inform?
- Explain?
- Persuade?
- Sell?
- Entertain?
- What is the potential bias of the site's creator?
- If there are advertisements on the site, are they distinct from the informational portion of the site?
- Accuracy
- Are there sources listed?
- Can you find obvious errors in spelling, punctuation, etc.?
- Can you verify the information in another reliable source?
- Coverage
- How in-depth is the information or material available on the site?
- Is this a summary or the complete work?
- What date is the content from and what period of time is covered by the page
- Dates (There should be dates on a web site. Can you tell what they mean?)
- Is the date a publication or copyright date?
- When was the page last revised?
- When was the page first created?
- When was the information gathered?
- Navigation/Design
- Can you connect to the site?
- Is the site organized in a way that makes it easy to access information?
- Are you able to navigate between pages in the site without having to use the back button?
- Are extra hardware or software required to view the site?
- Is the site accessible to people with disabilities?
