{ Rules of the Ripon College Ladies Department 1872 }

FACULTY TO THE LADIES: These rules embody our judgment of what is necessary in order to the successful prosecution of our work, and we have made them as few and simple as seemed possible. We have no motive to make them arbitrary, unreasonable or oppressive, and we invite the freest conference concerning their grounds and their application.

This is not a complete code. The requirements of Christian morality and good manners are not here stated, but they are held to be binding as a matter of course. What is here given is sufficient to guide all who are well disposed. If these rules be carefully observed, together with those which are observed in all good society, the result will be satisfactory alike to teachers and pupils.
