Soldiers and Graduates

1944 Ripon Bulletin

The ASTP unit left Ripon College at the end of March 1944.

Because of Ripon’s distinguished ROTC program, it was chosen as one of five colleges in the 6th Service Command to have an Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP).

In June 1943, four hundred soldiers arrived on campus to live in Tri-dorms, Smith, West, Parkhurst, and Tracy Halls.

The new Union dining hall became the army mess hall.

Practical Training for ROTC (1942-43).

"The ROTC program is divided into two periods each requiring two years to complete. The first period is required for all the men gives him all the classroom training to be a sergeant. If the man proves able after the first period, he may elect to continue for another two years and then be commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant when he graduates." (From 1943 Crimson)
