Women in Politics
March 21 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
A record number of women are running for public office in 2018, with women focused campaign schools surging in popularity. Despite this victory, women at all levels still face obstacles and resistance. Three panelists will discuss the current state of affairs for women in politics as well as what they see as hopeful for the future. This event will also feature advice that all people — particularly women — can take with them for their lives and leadership roles in politics. Panelists include: Gail Gitcho ’01, President of First Tuesday, and political consultant and communication strategist with more than 16 years of experience in both government and campaigns; Joan Ballweg, state representative for the 41st Assembly District located in south central Wisconsin; and Erin E. Forrest, Executive Director of Emerge Wisconsin, an organization dedicated to inspiring women to run for office and teaching them the skills they need to win. This event is sponsored by the Center for Politics and the People.
