Democracy Beyond the Ballot Box

Panelists will address practical political projects that make their communities more democratic. They will also articulate different conceptions of what democracy means for them, and why it is valuable to go beyond the ordinary political conception of elections as the essence of democracy.
The panelists are:
1) Nicholas Smaligo, ABD from Southern Illinois University, author of The Occupy Movement Explained (Open Court, 2014);
2) Dr. Cristoffer Lammer-Heindel, Assistant Professor of Philosophy, Loras College, and
3) Dr. Christine Darr, Assistant Professor of Christian Ethics, University of Dubuque
Dr. Steven Miller, Adjunct Scholar in Philosophy and Religion at Ripon College, will moderate the discussion.
