Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded United States Department of Education TRIO program and provides a network of academic, personal and career services to 160 students on the Ripon campus who are first-generation, lower-income or physically or learning disabled.
To qualify for Student Support Services, students must meet one of the following criteria listed below:
- First-generation college student: students whose parents did not graduate from a four-year college
- Low-income: students whose household income meets U.S. Department of Education Federal TRIO Program Low-Income Levels
- Learning and/or physically disabled: students who have appropriate documentation of a learning and/or physical disability
Student Support Services provides the following services to qualified students free of charge:
Academic and Life Guidance
Guidance toward choosing a career and major is available. Career shadowing opportunities are offered to students when possible. Information about note-taking, exam preparation, goal setting, and time management.
Cultural Enrichment Experiences
Student Support Services provides opportunities for participants to experience cultural activities and events on and off-campus. Past events have included trips to Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, and Appleton to see productions like The Lion King, Wicked, Stomp, Lord of the Dance, and more.
Graduate School
Student Support Services has been helping students with graduate school applications and summer research opportunities for many years. Students can have their questions answered, get their application statements and resumes reviewed, and get connected to relevant resources at many schools across the country.
Paper and Resume Writing Assistance
Students can receive assistance on creating and editing papers, as well as composing resumes and formulating cover and thank-you letters. A resume-writing workshop is offered every spring to all students on campus.
Peer Contacts
Peer Contacts are students hired by the Student Support Services to meet regularly with first-year eligible students to assist with the academic and social transition from high school to college. Peer Contacts have gone through training and are meant to serve as a positive influence and resource to incoming students.
Services for Students with Disabilities
For those students who hold documentation of a physical or learning disability, Student Support Services in conjunction with faculty members, offers individualized writing support, test-taking accommodations, note takers and specialized computer programs. Learn how to request accommodations.
Skill Development and Workshops
All are welcome and encouraged to join us for our various skill development and financial literacy and intelligence workshops. These events help students plan for a sound, reasonable and workable financial future.
