John Harper to address Cold War foreign policy of George Kennan
Dr. John Harper, professor of American Foreign Policy at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), will speak at 4:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, in East Hall Little Theater on the Ripon College campus. All are invited to attend, and refreshments will be served.
The subject of Harper’s talk is “The Outsider as Insider: George Kennan’s Attempt to End the Cold War, 1947-50.” Kennan was the author of the containment doctrine from the Cold War. Kennan was born in Milwaukee and played an instrumental role in American foreign policy for more than 50 years. His father, Kossuth Kent Kennan, graduated from Ripon College in 1875.
