Chamber Music and Jazz Series presents weekend of music

The Chamber Music and Jazz at Ripon Series welcomes two music ensembles to the Ripon College campus Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 24 and 25. Cor Cantiamo, a professional choral ensemble, will perform Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Intersection Trio, one of the most exciting new groups in chamber music, will perform Sept. 25 at 4 p.m. Both performances will be held in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts.

Cor Cantiamo is a professional choir founded with the mission to perform and promote contemporary choral music and foster new composers for the art form. Since its inception in the spring of 2009, the choir has emerged as an energetic and accomplished vocal ensemble, receiving accolades for their performances. Morten Lauridsen, has praised the ensemble for presenting “choral artistry at its finest.”

Eric Johnson, founding artistic director of Cor Cantiamo, will be leading a clinic with the Ripon College Chamber Singers Friday, Sept. 23 at 4:15 p.m. in Demmer Recital Hall.

Intersection Trio has been described by the Los Angeles Times as having “diamond-hard brilliance, uncommonly poetic depths … breathtaking in precision, dexterity and unanimity of attack. Stunning.” Comprised of violinist Laura Frautschi, cellist Kristina Reiko Cooper and pianist John Novacek, the trio’s typical program is an irresistible blend of classical, jazz, Latin, Broadway/film music, vital new commissions, and the group’s own original compositions and arrangements.

This performance is the annual Lynn Northrop Memorial Concert at Ripon College.

“We have never tried having two groups in Ripon as part of our series on one weekend,” said Kurt Dietrich, professor of music and director of the Chamber Music and Jazz at Ripon Series. “The calendar just lined up for us to have two outstanding groups on campus in two days. To have a wonderful choral group and one of the hottest new groups in chamber music on one weekend is very exciting.”

Tickets for each event are $20 for adults, $15 for senior citizens age 62 or older, $15 for Ripon College faculty and staff, and $10 for youths age 18 or younger. Visit ripon.edu/fine-arts for more information or call 920-748-8126 to order tickets.
