Brass Trio performs Jan. 30

V3NTO Brass Trio will perform Jan. 30 as part of the Chamber Music and Jazz at Ripon music series. The performance will begin at 8 p.m. in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts. Ticket information is available by calling 920-748-8126.

This ensemble is dedicated to expanding the boundaries of the brass trio repertoire, including new works, Georgian folk songs, music from the film “Alfie,” music of Astor Piazzolla and Erik Satie’s “Gymnopedie No. 1.” Since its establishment in 2010, V3NTO has performed a wide variety of music, from premiering newly composed works commissioned by the trio to performing with the Barehand Jugband.

V3NTO has performed at Nichols Concert Hall, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House, the Chicago Brass Festival, the Quad City Symphony Signature Series at the Figge Art Museum, the Ashland Chamber Music Society, the Heyde Center for the Arts, the University of Wisconsin, and many others. In 2012, V3NTO received the Grand Prize in the Chicago Brass Festival Ensemble Competition and finished as a quarterfinalist in the 2013 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.

Jessica Jensen began playing trumpet in her hometown of Hortonville, Wisconsin, and earned her bachelor of music from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, and her master of music degree from UW-Madison. She is working on her DMA at UW-Madison and is a member of the University of Wisconsin Brass Quintet and Mad City Brass. She also is an adjunct professor of trumpet at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Hornist Anna Jacobson has performed throughout Chicago and the Midwest in a wide variety of orchestras and other ensembles. She was a member of the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra in Lucerne, Switzerland; is a member of the Jonas Friddle and the Majority; and teaches private horn and violin lessons. She won the College Winds Division of the 2009 Union League and Civic Arts Foundation Solo Competition; took second place in the solo horn competition for the International Horn Society’s 2006 Midwest Horn Workshop; and was a winner and runner-up of several concerto competitions at both Lawrence and DePaul universities.

Bass trombonist and euphoniumist Skyler Johnson is a member of the Quad City Symphony, Peoria Symphony, Battle Creek Symphony and the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra. Since 2011, he has served as the bass trombonist of the Artosphere Festival Orchestra. He is adjunct professor of low brass at Saint Xavier University in Chicago, Illinois.
