Politics Center to Host Republican Congressional Primary Debate

The new Center for Politics and the People at Ripon College will host a debate on Friday, August 1, featuring all four of the Republican candidates for the 6th Congressional District. The Wisconsin Primary is August 12.

The debate will take place on Friday, August 1, at 5:30 p.m. in Great Hall of Harwood Memorial Union on the Ripon College Campus.

“We are very pleased to see our new Center involved in this important way with the political process,” said Dr. Zach Messitte, President of Ripon College. “We look forward to hosting debates throughout fall prior to the general election in November so that our students, faculty, staff and community are well-informed when they go to the polls.”

The four candidates who will be appearing at the debate are: Sen. Joe Leibham of Sheboygan, Sen. Glenn Grothman of Campbellsport, Rep. Duey Stroebel of Cedarburg and Mr. Tom Denow of Oshkosh. Long-time Congressman Tom Petri will be retiring after serving 18 terms of office in Washington, D.C.

The Republican primary candidates will be allocated three minutes each for an opening and closing statement. Questions will rotate between each candidate with two minutes to respond. The debate will last 90 minutes.

Parking is available on Seward Street and in the Woodside Parking Lot on the Ripon College campus.
