Willoughby, Jansma ’06 Published in Nature Protocols

Patrick Willoughby, assistant professor of chemistry at Ripon College, co-authored an article that appeared in the most recent volume of Nature Protocols. The article, “A Guide to Small-Molecule Structure Assignment Through Computation of (1H and 13C) NMR Chemical Shifts,” was co-authored with a Ripon Alumnus, Matt Jansma ’06, and is based off of the work the two conducted in the PhD program at the University of Minnesota.

The work, overseen by Professor Tom Hoye of the University of Minnesota, sets forth a protocol, “intended to provide chemists who discover or make new organic compounds with a valuable tool for validating the structural assignments of those new chemical entities.”
