Theatre Students Honored

The Cast of The LiarA scene from Ripon College’s fall production of “The Liar,” by David Ives, has been selected to perform at the Regional Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival at Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan in January. The actors in the scene are Stephen Umhoefer ’15 of Green Bay, Wis.; Jerry Kurek ’14 of Whitefish Bay, Wis.; and Grant Myers ’17 of Williams Bay, Wis. The play was directed by Professor of Theatre Ken Hill with costumes by Visiting Professor of Theatre Susan McDaniel Hill.

Being selected to perform during the “Evening of Scenes” at the opening of the 4-1/2 day festival is the highest recognition an associate (non-competing entry) can obtain.

The festival includes many competitions in theatre arts, and the Irene Ryan Audition Contest is a featured event. Only two students from the entire region (Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and Indiana) will advance to the nationals at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Nominees from 2013 Ripon theatre productions, are:

  • Acting, Umhoefer; Kurek; Carl Meisner ’16, Minnetonka, Minn.; Kally Gagnon ’14, Mount Horeb, Wis.; Susie Shively ’17, Wauwatosa, Wis.; London Mosher ’16, Sun Prairie, Wis.; and Amanda Finn ’14, Dousman, Wis.
  • Anders Goodwin ’15, Milwaukee, Wis., stage management and theatre critics competitions.
  • Joseph Johns ’14 of Ripon, Wis., stage management competition.
  • Amanda Finn, last year’s regional winner of the critics competition, will work alongside the faculty and the professional critic as an festival intern, helping to manage the competition.
