Piano, sculptural collaboration featured at Ripon College
Pianist Beth Winterfeldt and sculptor Nicole Hoiland will offer a collaborative presentation at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts, on the Ripon College campus. Their appearance is part of Ripon’s 2013-14 Caestecker Fine Arts Series:
Winterfeldt’s performance of Richard Danielpour’s “The Enchanted Garden Preludes” will share the stage with Hoiland’s sculptural works, which were inspired by the music. A reception in the lobby will follow.
Admission to the performance is free.
Danielpour embraces a wide range of influences in his musical style that range from rock and ragtime to structure and sounds characteristic of Western European composition. With these preludes, he seeks to express both the gardens of the mind and the dreamlike qualities of memories in real life.
Winterfeldt has an independent teaching studio and is a member of the piano faculty at Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minn. A proponent of new music, she seeks opportunities to present recent compositions to untapped audiences. She received a bachelor’s degree in piano performance from Concordia College, Moorhead, and a master’s degree from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music.
Hoiland works at the Nova Classical Academy in Saint Peter. She received a bachelor of arts degree from Concordia College, Moorhead, and a master of fine arts in ceramics and a master of arts in drawing from Stephen F. Austin State University. She has taught at the American School in Paris and Gustavus Adolphus College, and has held exhibitions at such venues as the University of Minnesota’s Larson Gallery, Archie Bray Center for the Ceramics Arts in Helena, Mont., and a solo show at the ArtExchange Gallery in Seattle, Wash.
