Lane Library Expands E-Book Offerings

eBooks_1200x600Lane Library officially announced the expansion of their eBook offerings for Ripon College students, faculty, and staff. Thanks to a new subscription to EBSCO Academic, the library’s eBook offerings rose from 3,000 volumes to over 120,000. The new subscription was made possible, in part, through a gift from the Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund.

Amy Rachuba, Assistant Librarian for Resource Services, says the expanded cross-disciplinary eBook collection allows the library to quickly offer new editions of many books to multiple users on campus, simultaneously. In addition to being able to view the eBooks from any internet enabled computer on campus through a web browser, patrons are also able to download the texts onto mobile devices of nearly every sort, including Android devices, iPads, iPhones, and Kindle Fires.

“I believe that this offers another way for the library to provide information to students,” says Rachuba. “By placing these items in the Lane Library catalog, it provides a way to do one search for different types of content. In conjunction with our print collection and other electronic resources, the new eBook collection is a well-rounded selection of items that will be beneficial to our students and faculty, both in content and ease of use.”
