One World Consort Performs at Ripon College
One World Consort, a musical ensemble featuring a jazz quartet and a string quartet – will perform at Ripon College, Friday, March 22, as part of the 2012-2013 Chamber Music and Jazz at Ripon Series.
The performance will begin at 8 p.m. in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts, on the Ripon College campus.
One World Consort features a jazz quartet comprising David Milne, Mary Louise Knutson, Eric Graham, Craig Hara; and a string quartet comprising Laurie Petruconis, Allison Ostrander, Susan Janda and Rebecca Arons.
They will perform “Terra Madre (Mother Earth),” a new jazz-classical-world chamber music work by composer and arranger Fred Sturm. “Terra Madre” is based on Sturm’s earlier work, “Migrations: One World, Many Musics,” commissioned and performed by Bobby McFerrin, Original Artists (New York) and the NDR Big Band (Hamburg) in a concert tour of Europe and at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2008.
The double quartet presents music from a spectrum of cultures, including those of Appalachia, Argentina, Australia, Bulgaria, France, Hungary, India, Japan, Mongolia, Republic of Congo and Tibet. Terra Madre is a musical plea for world unity that celebrates both the diversity and shared influences of indigenous music from several different countries.
Individual ticket prices for the concert are $15 for adults; $12 for senior citizens age 62 or older; $12 for Ripon College faculty and staff; and $8 for students youths 18 or younger. Tickets may be reserved by calling 920-748-8791.
