Janus Trio Performs at Ripon College

Janus Trio

The Janus Trio comes to Ripon College on Friday, February 15, 2013, as part of the 2012-2013 Chamber Music and Jazz at Ripon Series. The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Demmer Recital Hall at the C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts on the Ripon College campus.

The trio from Brooklyn formed in 2002 and is comprised of flutist Amanda Baker, Beth Meyers on viola, and Katherine Ventura as guest harpist. Their trio is named after Janus, the Roman god whose double-faced image peers into the past and future.

They focus on the tradition of the instrumentation while also breaking new ground into unexplored sonic frontiers. Their goal is to present and create new repertoire through commissioned projects and works-in-process collaborations.

The program will feature compositions by Debussy and Toru Takemitsu, as well as a number of works written expressly for the trio, including the title works (four separate pieces) from their CD, “i am not,” by Jason Treuting.

The trio has built a great reputation for amazing interpretations of traditional and new repertoire and has received rave reviews from National Public Radio and others.

The group has performed these works with revolutionary spirit in all kinds of venues, from the Kennedy Center to Joe’s Pub and Le Poisson Rouge to Universities and churches in different communities. In 2011, Janus Trio received a Grant for Commission awarded by the Chamber Music America Grant.
