RIPON, Wis. - For the second consecutive season, the Ripon women's tennis team was victorious in their first match of the season, getting off to a great start with a 5-4 win over MSOE. Nearly every match was tightly contested, with MSOE taking two of three doubles matches, while Ripon won four of the six matches in singles play.
After Ripon dropped their number one and two doubles matches to start the afternoon, Megan Sockness and Brooke Deans teamed up to give Ripon their first team point of the day, with an 8-2 win in number three doubles.
Singles play started in similar fashion, with MSOE taking the number one and number two seeded matches, 6-0,
6-1, and 6-3, 7-5, respectively. Ripon's Arielle Denis snapped that streak with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over MSOE's Carol Smith-Cayo in number three singles. Chelsey Foster, Erin Gebhardt, and Kate Dricken followed that up with victories of their own, winning at number four, five, and six singles, respectively.
The Red Hawks will look to duplicate Friday's performance on Saturday, when they'll battle Lake Forest College. That match will begin at 10:30 a.m. in Ripon at Larson Courts.
