RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's regular season came to an end Thursday afternoon with a home match against Lawrence University. The Red Hawks scored two points in singles play, but that's all they could muster, as they dropped the match 7-2 to the Vikings.
Ripon's Erin Gebhardt and Alecia Kiszonas notched the only victories for the Red Hawks (3-8, 0-4), in number four and five singles, respectively. Kiszonas defeated Greta Elsass 7-6, 6-1, while Gebhardt won her match over Tara Lahtinen in a tie-breaker 3-6, 6-3 (10-7). Ripon's Arielle Denis was also involved in a tiebreaker in number three singles. Denis won her first set 6-4 against Lawrence's Emily Dalton, before Dalton took the second, 6-4, and the tiebreaker, 10-8.
Doubles play wasn't nearly as close. Ripon's Kara Wagner and Megan Sykes came closest to winning of any Red Hawk doubles team, losing 8-4 in number one doubles. Kristine Jansen and Megan Petri lost in number two doubles, while Megan Sockness and Brooke Deans couldn't hold off the Vikings in number three doubles.
The Red Hawks will now prepare for the Midwest Conference Tournament, which will begin on October 12. The three day event will be held in Madison, Wis.
