MADISON, Wis. - The Red Hawks competed at the Midwest Conference Championships over the weekend, with a few players advancing to semifinal and championship rounds. That culminates a season in which Ripon finished 3-8 as a team.
In number one doubles play, Meagan Sykes and Kara Wagner advanced to the consolation championship, where they lost 10-3 to Carroll's Emily Linse and Hana Poser. The doubles teams of Kristine Jansen/Megan Petri and Brooke Deans/Chelsey Foster lost their opening round matches in numbers two and three, respectively.
In singles play, everyone lost their first match, with the exception of Arielle Denis, Erin Gebhardt, and Alecia Kiszonas, who each won at least one match in numbers three, four, and five, respectively. Denis advanced to the semifinals, after winning the play-in and first round matches. Her season came to an end against eventual champion, Grinnell's Maya Lipert, 6-0, 6-1. Gebhardt won her play-in match, before losing in the first round 6-4, 6-0 against Beloit's Julia Win.
