Monmouth, Ill. - The Red Hawks made the long trip to Monmouth
Friday, hoping to end their six game losing streak. They didn't
have such luck however, as they lost to the Fighting Scots 7-2.
Ripon put up a fight in each match. In number one singles, Monmouth's
Cassandra Frantz defeated Jamie Lichon 6-2, 6-2. Sara Yerks did
a little better for the Fighting Scots in the number two slot,
defeating Ripon's Mara Evans 6-1, 6-2. Brittany Donnelly and Holly
Trotter won their respective matches by identical scores over Ripon's
Arielle Denis and Kara Wagner. Ripon finally got on the board in
number five singles as Alecia Kiszonas defeated Rachel Atherton
3-6, 6-3, 10-8. Monmouth's Karen Skadow rounded out the singles
competition with a win over Kristine Jansen 6-4, 6-1.
Ripon got off on the right foot in doubles play, as Lichon and
Wagner notched an
8-5 victory over Frantz and Donnelly. Trotter and Yerks then got
Monmouth back on track with an 8-3 victory over Evans and Meagan
Sykes. In number three doubles, Atherton and Maddy Ethington defeated
Ripon's Erin Gebhardt and Jansen 8-4.
The Red Hawks will try to snap their losing streak Saturday, as
they play two matches. They open the day against Knox at 8:00 a.m.,
then play Illinois College at Knox at 10:30 a.m.
