SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - The Red Hawks rebounded tremendously from their
opening season loss Wednesday, picking up their first victory of
the season, a 9-0 win over Lakeland College.
Jamie Lichon defeated Lakeland's Linsay Crum in number one singles,
6-3, 6-4. She was joined in the win column by Mara Evans, who was
the only Red Hawk to take their match to three sets, winning 4-6,
6-1, 6-4. Ripon's Arielle Denis, Chelsey Foster, Alecia Kiszonas,
and Kate Dricken all disposed of their opponents easily, losing
just four games in their eight combined sets.
Doubles play was more of the same for the Red Hawks, as none of
the matches were ever really in doubt. Lichon and Evans won their
doubles match 8-4. Kara Wagner and Meagan Sykes won their match
in doubles play by the same margin, while Chelsey Foster and Kristine
Jansen had an easier time, disposing of their opponent, 8-1.
The Red Hawks will try to keep that momentum going as they enter
conference play on Saturday. Lake Forest will come to town, looking
to play spoilers. The match will begin at 12:00.
